About Nate

Meet Nate Torra
Born and raised in Massachusetts, Nate Torra is a California-licensed massage therapist, NASM Certified Personal Trainer, and accomplished judo athlete with over 12 years of experience in therapeutic massage.
A graduate of the National Holistic Institute in Emeryville, Nate specializes in Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, Swedish Massage, and other therapeutic techniques designed to relieve muscle tension, improve mobility, and support recovery from chronic pain and injuries.
Combining his expertise in massage therapy, personal training, and competitive athletics, Nate takes a comprehensive approach to helping clients move better, feel better, and maintain an active lifestyle.
His experience includes working with clients experiencing chronic and acute pain, including neck and back discomfort, frozen shoulder, sports-related injuries, and muscular imbalances. Whether addressing persistent muscle tension or supporting athletic recovery, Nate tailors each session to the individual’s needs and goals.
Nate’s approach begins with an assessment of each client’s concerns, movement patterns, and physical limitations. Drawing on his knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and functional movement, he develops personalized treatment plans that combine targeted bodywork with an understanding of strength, mobility, and injury prevention.
Education & Professional Background
Nate graduated from the National Holistic Institute in 2011 with a 4.0 GPA and honors, earning recognition as the only student in his class to achieve this distinction. He also received a Letter of Excellence during the Western Segment of his training.
In addition to his massage therapy credentials, Nate is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, bringing an additional dimension to his work through his understanding of exercise science, biomechanics, and physical conditioning.
Athletic Background
A lifelong athlete, Nate began practicing judo at the age of four and went on to become a two-time Senior National Champion. His accomplishments include multiple Junior National Championship titles, recognition as the United States Judo Federation’s Senior Male Player of the Year in 2004, and participation in the 2004 and 2008 U.S. Olympic Judo Trials.
After moving to California in 2006, Nate joined the East Bay Judo Institute (EBJI), where he trained under Dr. David Matsumoto, the 2003 U.S. Olympic Committee Coach of the Year. In 2008, Nate won the Senior National Championships and earned a bronze medal at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Nate continues to teach judo at EBJI, sharing his experience and passion for movement with the next generation of athletes.
A Personalized Approach to Wellness
Through his private massage practice in Oakland, Nate brings together more than a decade of hands-on massage experience, professional personal training knowledge, and a lifetime of athletic experience.
His goal is simple: help clients address the sources of their discomfort, improve mobility, and feel their best in everyday life.
