Supplements for COVID-19
I wanted to make a post on the supplements that I personally take to give my body the best possible outcome in the event that I contract COVID-19.
Disclaimer: the following information is not intended to be medical advice. Always check with a doctor or primary care physician before taking any new supplement or medication and do yourself the service of double checking and doing your own research. This post is for educational purposes only.
I take other supplements including a multivitamin, turmeric, collagen, probiotics and L-Lysine but I wanted to focus on the ones that are COVID specific.
I placed them from left to right based on what I feel are the most important. I will source the articles I used to come to these conclusions.
Vitamin D3
D3 is a vitamin that we get most readily and easily from sunlight. Going into the winter months most of us will be getting much less sunlight than summertime at a much lower UV index, thus lowering our D levels. Around 35% to 40% of U.S. adults are thought to have a vitamin D deficiency.
There have been multiple studies conducted that have demonstrated strongly that people with low levels of D3 are having significantly worse outcomes than those with adequate levels.
The best way to know how much D3 you should take would be to get a blood test. <20ng/ml is deficient and <30ng/ml is insufficient.
Zinc + Quercetin
Zinc is important for COVID as it has been shown to be a very effect anti-viral against other coronaviruses. The problem is that due to its chemistry, it’s very difficult to get zinc into the cell where the coronaviruses multiply. This is where the quercetin comes in.
Quercetin is a bioflavonoid found in many fruits and vegetables. It’s gained popularity for having very effective anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties. These in and of themselves are great reasons to take this superfood but Quercetin plays another important role for COVID. In the most laymen’s terms I can think of, essentially what the Quercetin does is creates a doorway into the cell and allows the zinc to get to where the coronavirus is multiplying.
Theoretically speaking, Quercetin acts as prophylaxis, keeping the cells open and ready to receive any zinc you give to the body, thus giving you an early start against the virus.
I do not take the 50mg zinc on a daily basis. I get my daily zinc through my multivitamin, but I keep the 50mg on hand in the event I become symptomatic. This will give the body a large dose in the early stages of the disease and theoretically slow down the multiplication of the virus.

Olly Immunity Sleep
This is a great product IMO. It has Elderberry, Zinc, Vitamin C, Echinacea and Melatonin. Echinacea is a known immunity booster and antiviral but the melatonin is what is being shown to have positive outcomes for COVID-19.
Melatonin
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland that regulates sleep. First of all, it should be understood that sleep is a major factor in overall health. Getting 8 hrs of sleep per night is ideal for optimum immune health. Some studies have show a 30% reduction in the likelihood of testing positive for COVID-19 when taking a melatonin product.
Artemisia Annua (Sweet Annie)
The last supplement on the list is Artemisia Annue, AKA “Sweet Annie”, “Artecin”, “Sweet wormwood”. My acupuncturist gave this one to me as a recommendation for fighting COVID.
Sweet Annie is an herb that is traditionally used to treat malaria. Some studies coming out of China have shown that is has positive outcomes for COVID patients. I take this supplement daily as it has helped TREMENDOUSLY with my digestion and overall gut health, in addition to giving me some protection against COVID.
If you take these supplements is it a guarantee you won’t get sick?
Of course not! What it will do though is make sure your body’s immune system is functioning at its personal best, as well as give you some defense against the virus. For me it’s akin to cleaning your gun or sharpening your sword before battle. It doesn’t guarantee you will be victorious, but the last thing you need is a dull blade, or jammed rifle when entering into war.
Mom Torra
Great info…I personally believe the best defense is the immune system. Gut probiotics could also be added.

Thanks for the helpful info Nate! Hope to see you in 2021!
